Walter Marchetti

October 2, 1949 — March 15, 2022

Smithfield

Walter Marchetti, 72, passed away on Tuesday, March 15th, at RI Hospital.  He is survived by his loving partner of 25 years, Barbara Penza of Warwick, his son, Jason Marchetti of Seekonk, and his sister, Charlotte Mellilo of Cranston.  He was the father of the late Jeffrey Marchetti of Smithfield and brother to the late Louis, Kenneth, and Mary Lou Marchetti of Providence.

Walter worked in the produce industry for nearly his entire career with his fondest memories working for Ro-Jack’s Supermarkets and Manhattan Tomato Company in Providence.  Walter also served honorably in Vietnam as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

Most days Walter could be found at Swansea Golf Course with his friends where he occasionally scored in the high 70’s.  Other days, he could be found checking the tide charts or making lures at home as he was an avid saltwater fisherman.  Most recently, he would be cruising Narragansett Bay in his 20-foot Sea Striper fishing boat with his grandchildren.  In the town of Smithfield, Walter’s best memories were as a youth coach of multiple sports where he raised his two sons.

In addition to those already mentioned, Walter leaves behind two wonderful families, Jason and his wife, Liza Catallozzi and their two daughters, Zelda (8) and Ramona (5), and Daryl and Kristen Pina of Coventry, and their children Ryan (13) and Kylie (10).

A gathering will be held on Tuesday at 10 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with words of remembrance at 10:30.  Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park.  Calling hours Monday 4-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a small donation in his remembrance to the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, PO Box 3102, Pawtucket RI 02861.
