Urquhart, Virginia R. “Ginny” (Kaloustian), 71, died on January 30, 2022 at Kent Hospital. She was the wife of Robert B. Urquhart. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Virginia (Nahigian) Kaloustian.
Besides her husband, Ginny is survived by two children, Julie Walsh and her husband Jay of Warwick and Jeffrey Urquhart and his wife Jodie of Medfield, MA, four grandchildren, Jillian Walsh, Marlee Walsh, Benjamin Urquhart, and Averi Urquhart, and her sister, Denise Camara and her husband Kevin of Scituate.
Ginny worked as a secretary for North Kingstown High School and received her associate degree from Bryant College.
Virginia loved her two children, but absolutely adored her grandchildren. They gave her the energy needed to overcome her illnesses. She influenced so many young people at the high school that she earned a special honor at their graduation. She played “good cop/bad cop” with the two assistant principals (Bob Cooney, John Blaess, both good friends) in charge of discipline, offering snacks from her desk drawer while discussing their “crime” as they waited to be called into the principal’s office. These youngsters would forever become her friend, both at school and around town. She listened to their family issues, believed in them, and supported them when she could. Ginny knew that many came from troubled families and would always provide hugs when appropriate. She knew she was stretching the school rules, but that was not important to her.
Ginny will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, hugs, and advice, whether you asked for it or not! She could curl your toes with her off color comments, but it was all in jest—and the grandchildren loved her for it. Known as Nana to Jillian and Marlee, Lala to Ben and Averi, she was very involved in their lives, always keeping tabs on their activities and connecting with facetime and texting (after she was taught by Marlee and Jillian, of course). Benjamin and Averi loved tweaking her cheek, just to get a rise out of her. She just couldn’t get enough of her “sink babies”; we will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to RI National Guard Retirees Assn. Emergency Support Fund, 705 New London Ave., Cranston, RI 02920.
