Thomas Bowden

North Providence

Bowden, Thomas H., 87, died Friday, September 10, 2021 at the HopeHealth Hospice Center with his family by his side.  He was the husband of Margaret A. (Reid) Bowden. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Milton A. and Mary (Birnie) Bowden.

Thomas was a retired Professional Engineer, working for several area engineering firms. He earned his Civil Engineering degree from Roger Williams University. A longtime parishioner of St. James and St. Alban’s Churches in North Providence, he was a licensed Lay Reader for the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island for 45 years. He served on the vestry and the office of senior and junior warden at the former St. Alban’s Church in Centredale. He was also on the outreach committee in the operation of the Food Closet.  Thomas was a current parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church in Scituate.

Thomas was a volunteer at Capital Region RSVP.  He served in the US Army from 1956 to 1958. He went through pilot training for two years and finally soloed in 1979.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Susan C. Abbatomarco and Sharon L. Bowden, both of North Providence, four grandchildren, Andrew, Corinne, Matthew, and Jeremy, and four great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother William A. Bowden, Sr. of North Providence and a sister, Mary E. Nyman of North Kingstown.  He was the father of the late Sandra J. Sherman.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11 AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence. Visiting hours will be Tuesday 5-7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI  02904.
