Mary Leath

Leath, Mary K. (Rector), 87, of Johnston, died on February 6, 2022 at Stillwater Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Community.  She was the wife of Colin W. Leath for 66 years.  Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Daugherty) Rector.

Mary graduated from Classical High School in 1952 and attended RI Hospital Nursing Training from 1952-54.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Louttit Laundry from 1954-56, as well as for her husband’s business.

Mary was a member of Trinity Methodist Church until 1960. She was a member of the former Greystone PM Church where she taught and was superintendent of the Sunday School.  She was also the church choir director and organist.  She was a member of the church’s Puritan Club, a treasurer, and a conference delegate, retiring in 2011.  Mary was also a Cub Scout leader and held an Amateur radio License K1UTK.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three children, Susan Giarrusso and her husband Michael, James Leath and his wife Cheryl, John Leath and his wife Susan, two grandchildren, Colin Leath and his wife Cara and Emma Leath.  She was the mother of the late Thomas Leath and sister of the late H. Earl Rector and Martha Kelley.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.  Burial will be private.  Visitation Monday 10-11 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
