Manuel Sousa

May 8, 1944 — November 16, 2022

Scituate

Sousa, Manuel Joseph, 78 of Scituate, formerly of Warwick, passed away at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital on November 16, 2022 surrounded by his wife and daughter.

Born in Chicago, he was the son of the late Manuel and Philomena (Caranci) Sousa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Teresa (Rossi) Sousa, his daughter Justine (Sousa) Notardonato, and her loving companion Frank Ciorlano Jr.  Besides his wife and daughter, he leaves his brother George Sousa and sister Phyllis (Sousa) Lynch, both of North Providence.

He also leaves behind his adoring nieces and nephews, Phil DePasquale Jr., Lisa Marie (DePasquale) Acquaro and her husband Frederick, Mikayla Lynch and her husband Manuel Cordero and great nephew Philip DePasquale III.

Manuel served in the United States Coast Guard in 1964, in 1968 he became a Journeyman Lineman working for IBEW Local Union 104 out of Boston Massachusetts for 48 years until he retired in 2016.

From 1996 to 1998 Manny was a project manager for the North End Electrification Project (AMTRAK) for the Northeast Corridor Foundation/J. F. White. He received an award for quality workmanship production and safety on the design/build project.

He was the vice president of Local Union 104 from 2007 to 2010.  In 2017 Manny came out of retirement to support his “brothers” giving aid to areas hit by horrific storms around the United States.

Manny loved being surrounded by his family and friends, he was always the life of the party, dancing and laughing until the wee hours. His smile was infectious and made everyone around him feel loved. His passion was the water, we all knew summer was coming when the docks were going in!  He was happiest when digging for quahogs, boating, jet skiing or just sitting by the ocean with a nice cold beer (on ice!) and conversation. He was a skilled athlete, a star football player in his youth and an avid golfer in his later years. His newfound hobby was his interest in alpacas! Just before his death, his daughter Justine purchased 2 for him, Serenity and Isis. He enjoyed sitting on the deck watching them mill about. Manny was a loyal friend, loving father and husband, brother and uncle. He was larger than life and his light continues to shine in our memories of him.  He was loved and will be missed by so many.

His funeral will be held Monday November 21, 2022 at 10am from Robbins Funeral Home at 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Anthony’s Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave.  North Providence. RI burial with military honors will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston RI. Calling hours will be Sunday November 20, 2022 from 4-8pm at Robbins Funeral Home.

We wish to send a special thank you to the staff at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital Neurology/Department of Neurosurgery and Albert J Marano, MD at the Hartford Medical Building, for the amazing care taken with Manny.  Everyone went above and beyond and we will be forever grateful.

Gifts in memory can be made to Brigham and Woman’s Hospital, Department of Neuroscience, 75 Francis St, Boston Massachusetts 02115.
