Carol Mason

Mason, Carol (Cafferty), 89, of Greenville, died on September 4, 2022 at the Village at Waterman Lake.  She was the wife of the late Fred L. Mason, Sr. for 53 years.  Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Francis H. Cafferty, Sr. and Helen (Mahoney) Cafferty.

Carol is survived by two sons, Fred L. Mason Jr. and wife Tonia of Smithfield and Robert F. Mason and wife Heather of East Greenwich, five beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Andrea, Ariana, Hope, and Benjamin Mason, and many nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Francis, John, and William Cafferty, Anne Smith, and Mary Sharpe.

Carol grew up in Centerdale and lived in East Providence before moving to Smithfield in 1988. She graduated from North Providence High School and worked many years, with stops at Amica Insurance, Philips Petroleum, M & M Trucking, and finally retiring from her long-held position as a food stamp eligibility officer for the State of Rhode Island. Her love for people guided her throughout life, as did her great faith. She was equally devoted to her many friends as she was to her large and extended family. She lovingly cultivated long-lasting friendships throughout her life. She relished her many relationships, never failing to celebrate birthdays, holidays and special events with everyone in her life.

Carol was a long-time resident of Roy Carpenters Beach, Matunuck, and cherished spending her summers there with children, grandchildren, family and friends.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 8:45 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Philip’s Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville.  Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery.  Calling hours Thursday 4-7 pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
