Allen Garzone

August 4, 1953 — February 1, 2020

Smithfield

Allen Anthony Garzone, 66, of Smithfield, RI, passed away on Saturday February 1, 2020, surrounded by his loving and devoted family after a brave battle with illness.

Allen, beloved son of the late Paul A. and Elenora E. Garzone of North Providence, was born in Providence on August 4, 1953.  He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Sandra L. Garzone; his proud children, Allen Anthony Garzone II and his wife Kristen, Adam P. Garzone and Alexander A.Garzone; and Georgi Girl, his loyal canine companion.

Allen attended the original James L. McGuire Elementary School, and LaSalle Academy in Providence. From there he took classes at the Community College of Rhode Island and later he went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from St. Francis College in Maine, recently renamed the University of New England.

He was a well-loved, dedicated and highly respected teacher and colleague at North Providence High School, where he inspired students and made a difference in their lives for more than three decades.  There he will be remembered for having instituted the Tennis program, where he coached boy’s tennis and he also served as a class advisor.  After retiring, Allen volunteered his time and skills to building homes for Habitat for Humanity and building stage sets for local community theater in RI.   He also worked at Tides Family Services and he was a longtime member of the Italo-American Club in Providence.

Allen will be remembered as a loyal and devoted husband, father, friend and public servant. He will always be remembered as a positive, strong, intelligent and loving human being who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met, even to the end.  He made light of any challenges set before him.  He brought enthusiasm to every task he was faced with.  He enjoyed being with his wife, spending time with his three sons, working out at the gym, building furniture, doing yard work, eating healthy, listening to jazz, and following his favorite sports teams.  His passion and love for life were inspiring.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be made to a non-profit cause, as yet to be determined.  At such time we will post that information on social media.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service Thursday at 11 am in St. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence.  Visitation is omitted and burial will be private.
