Obituary

Stephen M. Schweiger, a devoted family man and compassionate soul, passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2026, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born on October 19, 1957, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lived for much of his life, Stephen lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Stephen’s career was characterized by steadfast commitment and a tireless work ethic. He served as a maintenance supervisor for over 800 apartments in Florida for 30 years. Following his relocation to Rhode Island, he continued his professional journey at Lowe's in Pro Services on Greenwich Avenue in Warwick where he was respected for his reliability and his willingness to go above and beyond to assist customers.  In his younger years, Stephen was involved in the family business, the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Florida and Colorado Springs, where he taught ballroom dancing for a period of time.

Stephen was a veteran, having honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for four years. His service exemplified the discipline and strength that he carried throughout his life.

Beyond his work, Stephen was cherished for his kindness, compassion, and great sense of humor. A great listener, he was always there to offer support and encouragement. His hobbies reflected his creative and patient nature: he enjoyed woodworking and building projects, including model ships and intricate Lego sets, which he took delight in assembling alongside his children and grandchildren. A lover of puzzles and challenges, he spent many hours engaged with hand puzzles and sudoku. Among his favorite pastimes was scuba diving, particularly exploring the vibrant waters of the Florida Keys with his beloved wife, Dorinda.

Stephen’s family was the cornerstone of his existence. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found immense joy in the company of his loved ones. He is survived by his wife, Dorinda Browne; his children, Jessica McGuire (Martin), Melissa Reynolds (Robert Bruno), and Jonathan Russo (Valorie); and his beloved grandchildren, Ryleigh McGuire, Kylin McGuire, Abigail Bruno, Adelyn Russo, and Zoey Russo. He also leaves behind his sister Jan Montgomery, nieces Alexandra and Katherine Montgomery, and many cousins who were dear to him.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Rose M. (Shell) Schweiger.

Stephen's services will be respectfully private.
