Ackroyd, Stanley Mason, 87, of Smithfield, died February 26, 2009 at Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Irene A. (Pickthall) Ackroyd. Born in North Providence, he was a son of the late Lewis and Charlotte (Mason) Ackroyd. He had lived in Smithfield since 1945.

Mr. Ackroyd was Secretary and Executive Vice-President of the Louttit Corp. for 40 years until retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific with the 1st Construction Battalion. He was a graduate of Bryant College, Dartmouth College, and the Harvard Graduate School of Business. He was a member of the Greystone P.M. Church, where he was on the Trustee Board and Treasurer. He was a past Vice-President of the Smithfield Lions and had been active in Boy Scouting and Little League Baseball.

Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Dennis of Citrus County, FL, Michael of Acton, MA, and Carl of Richmond, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was brother of the late Reginald and Harry Ackroyd.

His funeral service will be held Monday at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Calling hours Sunday 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greystone P.M. Church, c/o Mary Leath, 14 Blueberry Ln., Johnston, RI 02919.
