Obituary

Rosalie Anne Martineau (Varin), 74, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her home in Dayville, Connecticut.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Rosalie was the beloved wife of Lawrence “Larry” Martineau and a devoted mother to Peter Martineau (Sarah Basile), Brian Martineau (Ashley Dunagan), and Cheryl Martineau (Ernest Huntley). She was the proud and loving grandmother of ten grandchildren: Lukas, Liliana, Samuel, Liam, Josephine, Finnick, Harrison, Ian, Barnabas, and Merryn.

She was the daughter of Edward and Rita Varin and the cherished sister of Edward, Janice, Arlene, Mary Jeanne, and Kenneth.

Rosalie was a woman of deep and joyful Christian faith, devoted to her husband, her family, and a steadfast member of the Greater Providence church of Christ. She was a teacher and a homeschool advocate, an avid gardener, an excellent cook, who welcomed all to her table, she was a humble peacemaker, and a deeply attentive listener. She loved yard-saling on weekends, bike riding, reading books, and most of all spending time nurturing her grandchildren. She was a friend and comfort to everyone who knew her.

Rosalie bravely endured a long journey with early onset dementia without complaint or waver in her confidence that eternity was before her - considering it all joy. Through every stage of her illness, Larry faithfully cared for Rosalie, modeling Christlike love and loyalty in sickness and in health and inspiring their family by his example.
Even as her mind and speech faded, her love and relationship with God remained clearly evident - recognizing when the Bible was being read, nodding along to hymns, and silently mouthing words like “Hallelujah” and “So beautiful” to the very end.

Her family is grateful to have had her as their beloved matriarch, their emotional rock, their best friend, and their mentor - and they strive with hope toward spending eternity with her.

Relatives and friends are invited to a prayer service on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11 am in the Highland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1 Rhode Island Ave. Johnston.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 6-8 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence.
