Robert E. Izzo, 73, of North Providence, passed away on June 23, 2025. He was the husband of the late Carolyn A. (Flynn) Izzo and the son of the late Robert E. and Jennie (Bianco) Izzo.
Bob was the recipient of a bone marrow transplant in March but experienced an untreatable relapse. He was able to spend a few days in his home of 30 years before he passed.
Bob graduated from Rhode Island College with a BS and MA in Music Education. He was a music teacher and middle school band director in the West Warwick school system for 32 years. The yearly “Outstanding Freshman Musician” award is named in his honor. He also taught instrumental music at St. Thomas School. Bob played trumpet with multiple ensembles. He is an original member of The American Band, having joined the week of their 1978 re-organization. Recently, Bob was learning guitar. He looked forward to summer days at Scarborough and yearly trips to Ogunquit, ME. Bob’s hobby of decades was fitness, and he was dedicated to his strength training, neighborhood walks, and protein goals. He was a member of several professional organizations for educators and musicians and St. Thomas Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Sarah M. Izzo, his sister, Paula Girasole and her husband, Richard, his niece Jennifer Girasole, nephew Richard Girasole and his wife Michelle, four great-nieces and nephews, many beloved cousins, neighbors, gym buddies, and bandmates.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 4-7 pm in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10 am in St. Thomas Church, 65 Fruit Hill Ave., Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Band c/o RI Philharmonic Music School 667 Waterman Ave. East Providence, RI 02914.
