Phillip D. Durrell, 68, passed away surrounded by Family on August 9, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 22, 1957, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Everett Milton Durrell and Rita Marie (Varin) Durrell, and the devoted husband of the late Patricia Ann (Ramaglia) Durrell.

Phillip faced his illness with the same grit and strength that defined his life—fighting one hell of a fight to spend more time with those he loved most. His greatest joy came from being a loving father and, above all, an incredible “Papa.” His daughter, Lindsay, two grandchildren, Paul and Natalia were the center of his world. Whether he was catching one of their games, going out to lunch, or just watching movies side by side, those everyday moments meant everything to him—and he made sure they felt it.

Weekends were often spent at Lindsay’s home, where Phil would kick back and relax—hanging out in the yard with his son-in-law, Paul, enjoying their time together like old friends. Always nearby was Onyx, the beloved family dog, who was truly Phil’s loyal buddy. Whether sitting quietly on his lap or following him around the house, Onyx never left his sight–and the bond they shared was undeniable. Phil also had a true green thumb, lovingly tending to Lindsay’s plants and garden, making sure everything was thriving under his care.

A painter by trade, Phillip had an artist’s touch and took pride in his work—whether on the job or helping bring color to the homes of his daughter, nephews & nieces and many others. He was a true craftsman with a generous heart.

He found peace in simple pleasures: casting a line while fishing, weekends by the shore at Misquamicut Beach—especially during Lindsay’s younger years, with memorable stays at the Sandy Shore Motel and at the cottages with his Sisters & nephews—and time spent with friends as a longtime member of the Greystone Social Club.

Phillip is survived by his beloved daughter, Lindsay Scorpio, and her husband, Paul; his cherished grandchildren, Paul Scorpio III and Natalia Scorpio; his sisters, Aurora Young of Virginia and Judith Lapre of North Smithfield; his brother, Everett Durrell of North Providence; and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Known for his warm smile, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family, Phillip was not only a great man—he was also a Cool Papa. He leaves behind a legacy of strength, laughter, and unconditional love that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
