Philip J. Cornachione, 89, a longtime resident of Johnston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, just weeks shy of his 90th birthday, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Marie (DiScuillo) Cornachione. They were married for 51 years before her passing in December 2009. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Michael and Antonetta (Pallotta) Cornachione. Phil was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, completing a two-year tour in Germany. After serving his country, he spent his career working in the chemical and paper industries. After his retirement, Phil joined Marie in caring for their granddaughters, helping with preschool pick-ups, drop-offs, and activities, cherishing the time they spent together. They also enjoyed family trips, near and far. He was a World War II history buff, an avid reader, and a lifelong NY Yankees fan.
Phil’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He eagerly anticipated Sunday dinners and having everyone together as often as possible. He enjoyed “chewing the fat” with family and friends and sharing stories about what it was like growing up on Federal Hill back in the day.
Phil is survived by his loving daughters Gina Marie Cornachione; Maria Cornachione Kula, Ph.D. and her husband Mirek; Lisa Ann D’Amico and her husband Joseph, and two granddaughters whom he absolutely adored, Krystyna Kula and Amanda D’Amico. He was also the brother of Lucy Russo and the late Esther Rotondo, Marco Cornachione, Frank Cornachione, Nancy Spaziano, Anthony Carno, and Anna Cornachione. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
His visitation and funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 15 George Waterman Road, Johnston. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Ann Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church Memorial Fund, 4 Lafayette St., Johnston, RI 02919.
