Maurice N. Tancrell, 67, of North Providence, Rhode Island, passed away October 1, at Hope Hospice and Paliative Care after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Woonsocket, he is the son of the late Maurice C. and Lucille (Lemay) Tancrell. Maurice lived in Blackstone, Massachusetts, and graduated from Blackstone Millville Regional High School and completed a certificate in culinary arts at Blackstone Vocational High School. He continued his interest in culinary arts at Johnson and Wales University.

He spent many years involved in scouting having the distinction of being the first Eagle Scout from Troop 28 in Slatersville, Rhode Island. Maurice moved to Florida with his parents and his younger brother David. Maurice and David enjoyed many activities including bowling, swimming, salt water fishing, and exploring the natural beauty Florida provides. Even though he moved to Florida, Maurice never stopped rooting for the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

After many years working in culinary arts, he became interested in electronics and aviation. He attended Brevard Community College and worked at Rockwell Collins and Lockheed Martin. He was very proud that he was working in military defense.

At the same time, he became the primary caregiver for both of his parents. After their passing, Maurice came back to Rhode Island to be close to the rest of his family and work as a quality control inspector at Electric Boat.

Maurice enjoyed being an uncle to his nieces and nephews: Tara Brooks, Daniel and Brian Auxier, Mary Wojcik, Katherine Cabral, and Elizabeth Wojcik Reiss. Maurice is survived by his siblings: his caregiver Christine Tancrell Auxier of North Providence; Muriel McDaniel and her husband Garrett of Exton, PA; Diane Wojcik and husband John of North Smithfield; and David Tancrell and his wife Ashleigh of Durnham, NC.
