Obituary

Mary J. DiPaolo-Berger (Gautieri), of Johnston, passed away on February 27, 2026 at Miriam Hospital. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Walter A. Berger, Jr. for 29 years.

Born in Providence, she was the loving daughter of the late Frederick W. Gautieri, Sr. and the late Emma (Testa) Gautieri. She was the mother of the late John F. DiPaolo and the late David M. DiPaolo, both of Cranston. She was also the sister of the late Frederick W. Gautieri, Sr. of Cranston and the late Anthony R. Gautieri of Providence.

Additionally, Mary is survived by two nephews, Frederick W. Gautieri, Jr. (Cynthia) of Warwick and Steven A. Gautieri (Jeannie) of Cranston, as well as her niece, Diane DiPaolo, who was the private caretaker that Mary needed! She was much appreciated on a daily basis, and was a great help for many other duties in the household.

She also leaves her loving stepchildren, Paul W. Berger (Rose) of East Providence, Scott A. Berger (Sherrie) of North Scituate, and Christine E. Flint (Michael) of North Scituate and eight step-grandchildren; many devoted cousins, Susanne Baccari of Narragansett, Angela Leone (Frank) of Johnston, Richard Landi (Sharon) of Cranston, Connie Landi of North Providence, Gloria Rampone of Florida, and John Rossi (Donna) of Virginia, and four Godchildren, Steven, Diane, Jacqueline, and Carol. She also leaves her dearest friends, Ronald and Betty Cellucci of Johnston, Dom and Beatrice DiFormato of Cranston, Michael and Nancy Padula of Franklin, MA, and Roger and Pat Rivelli of Johnston. She will be greatly missed by all for sure.

Mary graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Providence and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Providence. She worked for the Department of Human Services in Johnston as the Welfare Director.

Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 12 Noon in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Visitation Wednesday from 10-12.
