Marion Browning, 86, died August 19, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late William and Elsie (Renz) Schmidt. She was the wife of 58 years of the late John E. Browning.

Marion was proud to earn her nursing diploma from Flower-Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City and her bachelor's degree from Columbia University. She was a registered nurse for 40 years, retiring from Rhode Island Hospital in 1992. She was a member of Open Table of Christ/Washington Park United Methodist Church. Marion was active in the League of Women Voters and church activities. After retirement, she volunteered for Home & Hospice Care of RI. She also enjoyed the theater and traveling with her husband.

Marion is survived by her children: Alan Browning and his wife Eileen of Rumford; Douglas Browning of North Providence; Stuart Browning and his wife Cindy of Pawtucket; and Jennifer (Browning) Hafner and her husband John of Clinton Corners, NY; and “seven spectacular grandchildren”: Alex, Catherine, Evan, Alyssa, Kristina, Timothy and John.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26th at 10 AM at Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 25, 4-7 PM and Saturday, August 26th at 9 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Hospice RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence RI 02904.
