John Thomas Rankl, 76, of Johnston, passed away at home on August 1, 2026 after a long illness. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Albert and Yvonne (Ouellette) Rankl.

John worked as a welder at Electric Boat for many years before retiring. He served as a Sergeant in the Army in combat during the Vietnam War and was awarded several medals. John was well-loved in the community and known for his sense of humor. He cared deeply for his family, and was a father figure to his nieces. He is survived by his sister, Dianne Marcotte, his niece, Andrea Marcotte (Stephan Califano), and his niece and caretaker, Erica Marcotte (Christopher Leonard). He was the brother of the late Albert “Butch” Rankl. 

Burial in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery will be private.
