Jeanne Cecile (“Cis”) Octeau, born on March 8, 1937, lived a full life and left this world on December 15, 2025. The beloved daughter of the late Hermine and Oliva LaMontagne, she was raised in Central Falls, RI, where she attended school and mass speaking mostly French. She was one of 8 children: Leona, Helen, Paul and Simone (all deceased), Eugene, Noella and Claire. She married the late Donald Octeau in 1958 and within 8 years had 6 children: Philip (Donna) of Coventry, Melanie (Doug) of Portsmouth, Michael (Wendy) of Johnston, Stephen (Ann) of Warwick, the late Jay (Jennifer) of Westerly and Melissa (Greg) of Lincoln. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Cis will mostly be remembered for her friendly manner and her cooking skills. Although very busy as a young mom, she always found the time to have a cup of coffee with a neighbor and prepare 3 square meals a day for her family. We will treasure her recipes!
Cis and Don were great parents, involving their boys in ice hockey from a very young age and their girls in dance and figure skating. They could often be found at the Smithfield Ice Rink early on weekend mornings, offering hot chocolate and homemade blueberry muffins to others in the stands. They were so supportive of their children and their childrens’ families, often babysitting and giving “tubbies” to the little ones in the kitchen sink! They traveled to wherever their children were, often Baltimore and Boston.
In addition to a busy life, mom enjoyed crafts. She was a needle pointer extraordinaire and crocheted many afghans. She also learned new crafts such as ceramics, and took pride in setting up her Christmas village each year. She and Don were able to take many nice vacations together, including time in Florida for many winters in their retired life.
Mom will be dearly missed. Our family would like to thank the staffs at Saint Antoine Residence, Spring Villa Memory Care, and The Grand Islander Center for their care and support of mom during the last 5 years.
