Gloria Arruda

Arruda, Gloria D. (Mendes), 79, of Greenville, died peacefully at home on March 10, 2010 surrounded by her loved ones. A lifelong resident of Smithfield, she was a daughter of the late Antonio and Gloria (Costa) Mendes. Gloria worked for the Smithfield School Department as a teacher's aide for many years until retiring.

A devoted mother and grandmother, she leaves six children, Paula Buckley, David Arruda, Kathy Herzog, Ron Arruda, Robbie Arruda, and Wendy Miller, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a brother, Robert Mendes.

Her funeral will be held Monday at 8 am from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in St. Michael Church, Georgiaville. Burial will be private. Calling hours Sunday 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Down Syndrome Society of RI, 99 Bald Hill Rd., Cranston, RI 02920.
