Amaral, Frank J., 97, of Smithfield, died December 11, 2017 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Assunta “Sue” (DiMauro) Amaral. Born in New Bedford, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose (Amarantes) Amaral.
Frank was one of the organizers of Teamsters Local 251. During his forty-year trucking career, he had worked for Curran and Burton, Hudson Oil, Northern Motor Carriers, Wilson Trucking, and George Mann.
Active in the Smithfield community, he hosted the Holy Ghost Festival in Georgiaville for 7 years. He also was a member of Georgiaville Portuguese American Club, and was a member of the VFW Post #2929, having served in the Army during WWII.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary T. Amaral, a grandson, Jason Shillinsky, two great-grandchildren, Catherine and Jared Shillinsky, and two sisters, Beatrice Fritchel and Thelma Dufresne. He was great-grandfather of the late Jacob Shillinsky and brother of the late Albert, Alfred, Gilbert “Bud”, and Donald Amaral, and Rose Beam.
His funeral service will be held Friday at 11 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Visitation Friday 9-11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW Post #2929, 47 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917.
