Elizabeth P. "Betty" Gould passed away peacefully on December 22nd, surrounded by her children.  She was born on April 17, 1931 in Providence, RI to the late Horatio R. Paterson and Mary (Balfour) Paterson.  She spent the early years of her life as part of her large, close-knit family in Esmond, Smithfield, RI, graduating from Mount Pleasant High School in 1948.

After high school, she worked for AT&T as a switchboard operator and the the Amica Insurance Company.

In December 1955, Betty married Edward L. Gould, MD, with whom she raised their six children.

Throughout her life, she was always considerate of others, caring for her elderly relatives and in-laws.  After years as a homemaker, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in speech pathology from the University of Rhode Island in 1985.

Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending time with her immediate and extended family, visiting her brothers and sisters and their families whenever she could.  She was a member of the Quidnessett Baptist Church before moving to South County in April 1986, then became a member of the West Kingston Baptist Church.

She is predeceased by her son, Steven E. Gould, and her brothers, Walter E. Paterson and R. Bruce Paterson, and sisters, Mary Lou Wilson, Nancy Lewis, Barbara Ferguson, and Patricia Rathbun.

She is survived by five children, Amy P. Gould of Narragansett, Lisabeth L. Goodwin of South Kingstown, Jeffrey A. Gould of Albuquerque, New Mexico, David A. Gould and his wife Elizabeth (Burke) Gould of Narragansett, Christopher B. Gould of West Kingston, and grandchildren, Caitlin Goodwin, Brendan Gould, Megan Gould, Alex Gould, and Bennett Gould, and many nieces and nephews.
