Edna Swift

Swift, Edna H. 95, a resident of Smithfield for the last 74 years, passed away at home on May 30, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Elmer V. Swift. Born in Providence on February 6, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Olevine (St. Jacques) Hargreaves. She was one of three daughters, the late Marjorie L. Hargreaves and her twin sister, the late Norma Straight.
Edna was a graduate of Aldrich High School. She worked several years at Rhode Island Hospital Trust. Edna loved traveling with her family and enjoyed crafts such as cross stitching, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Mountford and her husband Bert of Glocester and Karen G. Gorton and her husband Michael of Needham, MA. A third daughter, Doris Lynn, predeceased her in 1981. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jason Mountford, Joshua Mountford and his wife, Misti, Michael Gorton Jr. and his wife, Erica, Kim Gorton and Daniel Gorton.
A graveside service and burial will be held Friday, June 8th, 2018 at 2PM in Highland Memorial Park, 1 Rhode Island Ave. Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904.
