Dorothy (Hartley) McHugh-Bassett passed away on March 11th, 2026 at age 86. She was the daughter of the late Alberta (Curry) and Richard Harold.  Born in Providence, Dorothy was a graduate of Central High School. She was employed by Gorham Textron, and then Atlantic Coal & Oil, and then retired from Ross Simmons.

She leaves behind her loving husband William "Bill" Bassett of many years, two sons, Scott McHugh of Johnston, step-granddaughter, Dawn Barry, and great-grandchildren, and Kevin McHugh (Jessy) of Thompson, Ct., and step-granddaughters, Tres-Belle, and Lavender.  

She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Hartley, and was predeceased by three siblings, Gertrude, Richard and Marilyn.

She leaves three stepsons, Brian (Marilyn), Darryl (Rachael), Kevin (Larissa), as well as many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her stepson, William Bassett.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 8:30-10:30 am in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, followed by a funeral service at 11 am in Georgiaville Baptist Church, 100 Farnum Pike, Smithfield.  Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgiaville Baptist Church, 100 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917.
