Berry, Doris "Rabbit" RN, BS, MS died on April 8, 2015 at Clipper Harbor, Portsmouth, NH. Born in Providence, RI, daughter of Percy and Emma (Goldthorpe) Berry of Graniteville, RI. Graduated from Mount Pleasant High School, Rhode Island Hospital Training School for Nurses, Class of 1944. Served in the US Army Nurse Corps 1945-1946. Took a Post-Graduate Course in Operating Room Nursing at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Obtained a BS degree from Boston University, Boston, MA in 1951. Served as Operating Room Supervisor at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Newton, MA for 4 years while working on her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Service Administration at Boston University. After a 9 month Residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, she served as Assistant Director of Nursing Service of the Outpatient Department of that institution (1956-1960). She served as Associate Director of Nursing Service at the Union Hospital (now Charlton Memorial), Fall River, MA (1960-1964). She served as Director of Nursing Service and the School of Nursing, Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, MA (1964-1968). Served as Director of Nursing at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, RI for 9 years.
She served on the Board of Directors of the American Hospital Association Nursing Administrators, was an active member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Massachusetts League for Nursing, The Lucy C. Ayers Foundation and the Dean's Advisory Group at the College of Nursing, University of Rhode Island.
She is survived by many friends and former colleagues.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1PM in the Elliott M. Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence, RI. Burial will be private. www.robbinsfuneralhome.com
