Betty Lombardi, 91, of Smithfield, Rhode Island passed away on Tuesday, September 27 after a prolonged illness. Betty was the daughter of the late Howard Owen and May (Hacking) Owen of North Providence, Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late Martin T. Lombardi and the proud mother of two sons, Paul Lombardi of Cranston and Dr. Mark Lombardi of Saint Louis, Missouri. Betty also had two beloved granddaughters, Elizabeth Bishop and Katherine Lombardi, and two equally beloved great-granddaughters, Hannah and Sophia Bishop.
Betty was a graduate of Classical High School and attended numerous reunions over the years. Betty loved music and dancing and was a huge fan of Clay Osborne and his Jay Clay Trio. She traveled extensively to her parents’ and family’s homes in Great Britain as well as throughout Europe and the Caribbean. She was an avid tennis player into her early eighties and enjoyed the camaraderie with her many tennis partners throughout the years. She loved dogs and had numerous pets from early childhood until just ten years ago. She also took great pride in her home of fifty-seven years, becoming a meticulous gardener and a passionate interior designer with a flair for the contemporary.
In lieu of services, Betty requested that mourners make contributions to the Salvation Army in her name. A few of Betty’s family members were lifelong members of the Salvation Army, including the late George and Olivia Bell.
Betty will be cremated and her ashes will be spread privately by the family.
