Russell, Anna, 83, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 23rd, 2016 in home surrounded by her family and friends. She was the beloved sister of Georgette Houde, Mary Conti, Olive Russell and Gertrude Clukey. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude Morancy.

Before retirement, Anna was employed by the Fogarty Center. She had many talents which included knitting, basket weaving and crocheting. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards and teaching King in the Corner. She was affiliated with many community activities including Best Buddies, Waterfire, and Providence College Literacy. She loved country music, especially the Eddy Zack Band.

Anna will be remembered for paving the way to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities were afforded equal access and independence in their community. She was a true pioneer of her time, one of the first to leave the institutions and create a fulfilling life for herself, living independently in her own home.

Her visitation will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 9:15-10:15AM in the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave. North Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Thomas Church, Fruit Hill Ave, Providence. Burial will be private.
