Johnston

Ann J. Scuncio (Bernardo), 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late James and Pia (Pezzullo) Bernardo. She was the devoted wife for 67 years of the late Edward L. Scuncio. She is survived by her beloved children Maryann Zinno (Henry), Edward L. Scuncio, Jr. (Sharon), Patricia Scuncio DeAngelo (Michael) as well as five grandchildren: Jonathan Zinno (Christine), Jennifer Livesley (James), Jessica Lafond (Nicholas), Brittany Scuncio and Zachary Scuncio (Alexandra) and nine great-grandchildren: Lily, Zoe, Ella, Anastasia, Ozzy, Hallie, Caroline, Penelope and Evelyn. She was the sister of the late Joseph Bernardo and is survived by her brother James Bernardo and her sister Barbara Domina. Ann graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. She was a secretary at Providence City Hall before getting married and starting a family. When her children were older, she pursued her hair dressing license and worked out of her home. Later in her life she successfully ran a flea market for many years. Her greatest achievement was her devotion to her parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Gammie” by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and everyone around her. Her family was the center of her world, and she spent countless hours making sure we were all well cared for. She was an excellent cook and baker and was known for her homemade manicotti, pies and cookies. Every meal she cooked in the kitchen always turned out delicious. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime parishioner of St. Ann’s Church in Providence where she was a Eucharistic Minister. You could always find her at mass on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. She had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and St. Therese of Lisieux and would always light a candle to St. Jude for anyone in need. She was always thinking of those less fortunate and went out of her way to make people feel loved and cared for. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Robert Bellarmine Church Food Shelf, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
