Obituary

Anita Somerville, an esteemed native of Providence whose life was marked by intellectual depth, artistic passion, and unwavering devotion to family, passed away on May 20, 2026, in her beloved hometown. Born on January 4, 1938, Anita’s journey was one enriched by education, love for the arts, and profound connections with those around her.

A proud graduate of Pembroke College, Anita cultivated a lifelong enthusiasm for the piano, which was but one facet of her enduring love for theater and the broader arts. She was renowned as a deep conversationalist, someone whose words invited reflection and whose presence brought warmth and insight. Anita cherished being surrounded by family and held those relationships as the greatest treasures of her life.

Her passing leaves a void felt deeply by her daughter, Sharon Lariviere, and her husband, Gregory, who carries forward her mother’s legacy of kindness and cultural appreciation. Sharon’s own family stands as a testament to Anita’s love of family. Her granddaughter Bianca Scotti and her husband Joseph, whose lives were brightened by Anita's gentle spirit; her grandson Kyle Nastari; and her great-grandson Jayden Scotti, and her nieces, Debra St. Jean, and Lynn Della Torre, and her many nieces and nephews of whom echoed the values and love she so graciously imparted.

Anita’s life was also shaped by the memories of those who have preceded her in rest: her father, Eugenio DeClemente; her mother, Letizia (Tammaro) DeClemente; her beloved husband, Robert Somerville; and her cherished sister, Rosemarie Caracciolo. Though they are gone, their presence remains woven into the fabric of her story.

To honor her memory, services will be held at Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence, Rhode Island, 02911. Visitation will take place on May 28, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  A prayer service will be held at 10:45 am. These moments of gathering will celebrate a life steeped in grace, intellect, and love.

Anita Somerville’s legacy is one of vibrant conversation, a passion for creative expression, and an abiding devotion to those she loved most. Her spirit will resonate in the halls of theaters, in the melodies of piano keys, and within the hearts of her family, who continue to carry her light forward with reverence and affection.
